Presenter – Jeri Banks
Jeri Bank, a member since 1974, will provide an overview of the POAB’s history in celebration of our Ruby (40th) Anniversary. Please bring your special appetizer, salad, or dish to share. Dessert will be provided.

Guest Speaker – Gareth Blakesley
Gareth Blakesley, Lake Katherine’s natural resources manager, served as a field supervisor for a restoration ecology firm before coming to Lake Katherine. Prior to his field experience, Gareth spent nearly four years employed as a Biology Laboratory Supervisor & Aquatic Invertebrate Specialist at the Peggy Notebart Nature Museum. Gareth received a Master’s Degree in Tourism and Conservation from the University of Kent in Canterbury, England and a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from the University of Wales in Aberwystwyth, Wales.

Bring your friends at 6:00-6:30p.m. to view the available items and enjoy the refreshments. Bidding starts at 7:00p.m. with George Mitchell as auctioneer. Proceeds go to the Educational Foundation and our local scholarship fund.

The Holiday Party will be at the home of member Nancy Mitchell. Bring an appetizer and/or dessert, wine, etc, and celebrate the season with old and new friends.
Guest Speaker –Jan Lisa Huttner
In this presentation, Jan Lisa Huttner will describe lessons learned since
encountering Martha Lauzen’s “Celluloid Ceiling” data in 2002.
Jan Lisa Huttner is an award-winning author/activist who writes regular columns as well as freelance articles for multiple print and internet outlets. A member of AAUW Chicago for over 25 years, Jan has served the organization at branch, state, and national levels. Jan received her B.A. from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland (the “Great Books” school), and Master’s Degrees in Psychology from Harvard University and the University of Chicago. In addition to her commitment to AAUW, professional memberships include the Association for Women Journalists, the Chicago Film Critics Association, the Illinois Woman’s Press Association/National Federation of Press Women, and the Women Film Critics Circle.

Guest Speaker s– Janet Musil and Kathy Mannion
The land of Turkey has been the crossroad for an abundance of civilizations, from the earliest Hittites to the Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires, as its capital straddles the two continents of Europe and Asia Minor. Join guest speakers Janet Musil and Kathy Mannion as they share their discoveries of the many influences that have created Turkey, past and present, gleaned during their visits to several of the historical sites throughout Turkey.
LAF works to combat sex discrimination through community and campus outreach programs, a resource library and online advocacy tools, and various research reports. In collaboration with the Public Policy and Government Relations department, LAF seeks amicus curiae opportunities in cases of discrimination that disadvantage women in the workplace. LAF is also transitioning toward supporting landmark sex discrimination cases that have the potential to make a difference for all women.
